A new dance is created to introduce young children to live ballet this autumn
Northern Ballet revives family classics for the autumn season with The Three Musketeers and The Nutcracker, as well as the première of a new children’s ballet, Puss in Boots.
Returning to the stage for the first time since 2007, Northern Ballet’s The Three Musketeers, directed by artistic director David Nixon, opens at the Lyceum Theatre, Sheffield from October 24th-27th.
Later in October, Northern Ballet holds the world première of its sixth new children’s ballet, Puss in Boots. Created especially to introduce young children to live ballet, theatre and music, Puss in Boots will be performed at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre, Leeds from October 27th until November 5th.
The autumn season closes with festive favourite The Nutcracker at Hull New Theatre (November 14th-17th) and Leeds Grand Theatre (December 4th-16th). Join Clara on Christmas Eve as she is swept away by the Nutcracker Prince on a magical adventure to a winter wonderland where she encounters dancing snowflakes and the famous Sugar Plum Fairy.
‘I am looking ahead with much anticipation as we present The Three Musketeers for the first time in over a decade, festive family favourite The Nutcracker also makes a return alongside brand new ballet for children, Puss in Boots,’ said David Nixon.
‘With its action-orientated plot, The Three Musketeers is an engaging and fun production both to perform and to watch. It has every element that makes a great ballet; romance, politics, fun and fights; and our dancers especially love gaining sword-fighting skills!
‘I am delighted to be bringing this production back out on tour for the first time since 2007; our loyal audiences have been asking for this for a long time so I am pleased they will be able to see it again, as well as for a new generation to be able to enjoy.
‘The Nutcracker holds a special place in the hearts of audiences young and old and for many, is an important part of their Christmas tradition. This year, our unique production will also feature some sparkling new costumes for the first act, just to add that extra bit of freshness to the festive season for our audiences.
‘And I am pleased Jenna Lee will be working with the company for the first time creating our new ballet for children Puss in Boots.
‘It is a charming story with wide appeal for young children and is the perfect way to introduce young families to ballet and live theatre.’
