A beach on the south coast of Cornwall is set to host two open-air theatrical productions this summer, with renowned Cornish theatre groups performing on stages built directly on the sand.

The first production on Carlyon Beach, near St Austell, will take place from 22 to 24 July, with Rogue Theatre performing their Deep Blue Summer Ball - a collection of sea-themed stories in the immersive style that many have come to associate with the group.

Artistic Director Angelina Boscarelli comments: “The sea has always washed up plentiful stories on the Cornish shores, and surrounded by the deep blue, Cornwall is a rich landscape of vibrant harbours, secret coves and vast horizons; the perfect playing place for wild imaginations.

“There will be enchanting live music, thrilling stories, otherworldly performance, explosive acrobatics, dancing, free face painting, and the chance to create something wild and wonderful in a free tideline craft workshop.”

The Deep Blue Summer Ball will be performed twice daily, at 2pm and 7:30pm. Tickets are available from the Cornish Riviera Box Office (bit.ly/CarlyonRogue) priced at £8.50 for adults and children.

The second production will see Miracle Theatre’s award-winning The Magnificent Three arrive on the beach for one night only on 25 August - described as a rootin-tooting, toe tappin comedy Western’.

“We are really looking forward to returning to Carlyon Beach this summer”, said Emma Gibson of Miracle Theatre. “We had a great time taking The Magnificent Three to the beach last year and it was a fantastic venue to showcase our Western comedy.

“After the hugely positive response from our audiences last summer, we are thrilled to be touring this fun-for-all production again in August. Now we just need to keep our fingers crossed for some fantastic weather to enjoy the additional treats seeing a show outdoors brings - abreath-taking sunset and sea air.”

The performance will begin at 7:30pm, with tickets also available via the Cornish Riviera Box Office (bit.ly/CarlyonMiracle), priced at £8 for children and £14 for adults. Family tickets are also available.

Carlyon Beach will continue to host outdoor events throughout the summer months, including beach banquets, open-air cinema, pop-up food traders, sporting events and more. Popular local food businesses Ostraca and Sam’s have permanent installations on the beach, and will remain open all summer.
