Fylde photographer Gregg Wolstenholme is getting rave reviews for his bird’s eye views of our world

Gregg Wolstenholme admits that he can’t resist gadgets – hardly surprising, really, as he works in the specialised world of IT at Leyland Trucks. But during much of his spare time his mind is on higher things – in fact, hundreds of feet in the air.

‘I became interested in photography two years ago and, as someone who is into gadgetry, the idea of a drone always intrigued me,’ says 38-year-old Gregg, who lives in Lytham.

‘I eventually got one via a colleague at work and started showing my work on social media. They got more and more attention and people approached me to buy prints. That meant I needed to qualify for a drone licence which took around four months.’

Gregg isn’t looking for a career change. ‘I enjoy my job a lot, but I get a huge amount of pleasure from photography.’

Early mornings to catch the sunrise and late evenings sunsets are his prime time although he has to balance that against the demand of work and his family, wife Sian and their children, Leo, aged five, and three-year-old Alana.

‘It’s something I love doing. I find it very therapeutic going to beautiful tranquil places. It’s very different from being on a big factory floor,’ he says.

‘It’s been wonderful to get such a lot of positive response from people who have seen my work – that has certainly added momentum. I’ve also bought a digital SLR to practice my ground based photography.

‘I love to go to places I’ve never been before. The Fylde Coast is a regular haunt but the Lake District is where the possibilities are endless. The list of places I plan to visit there is as long as my arm.’
