Royal Grammar School, Guildford continue their 500 year anniversary celebrations with an art exhibition at Guildford House Gallery

It's a year of celebration in Guildford - not only does 2009 mark the 50th anniversary of Guildford House Gallery and the 350th anniversary of the building it is housed in, but the Royal Grammar School is celebrating a mighty 500 years as well. Fitting then that an art exhibition by past and present pupils will be coming to Guildford House Gallery this month. As well as featuring paintings and sculpture from the RGS collection, which was started in 1993, there will also be work by such well known old boy artists as John Russell and Ronald Smoothey. "The Royal Grammar School has been a significant influence in Guildford for 500 years, educating boys from the town and from villages across Surrey," says Jenny Hipwell of the RGS Foundation. "This is a fabulous opportunity to see the artistic work of current and former pupils - one or two of whom are internationally renowned."

RGS 500 at Guildford House Gallery, 155 High Street, Guildford GU1 3AJ. Tel: 01483 444742. Running from Saturday September 19 to Saturday October 10.
