Clifton Amateur Dramatic Society presents Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead Thurs 14th Feb to Sat 16th Feb inclusive, tickets 10 (7 concessions) 7.30 pm (doors open 7.00 pm) At Redland Park United Reform Church, Whiteladies Road, Clifton, Bristol, BS6 6SA Bristol theatre lovers are offered the chance to enjoy this rarely performed tragi-comedy that tells the story of two minor characters from Shakespeare's Hamlet. This show is cracking entertainment -outrageously funny in its sheer absurdity on one level while engaging in philosophical debate on another. CADs reveal the journey of these two men on the road to certain death, a story that promises to be delightful, insightful and possibly frightful! Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are portrayed as two buffoons, Hamlet's childhood friends, now out to betray him at the behest of his evil stepfather, King Claudius. Yet they are the most inadequate spies and inept assassins imaginable and Hamlet will end up having the last laugh over their dead bodies. CADs reveal the journey of these two men on the road to certain death, a story that promises to be delightful, insightful and possibly frightful! We meet them floundering around in a world they do not understand. They find they cannot remember why they are where they are and what they are doing. They can't even remember their own names. Along with the nonsense they ramble, are contained some profound philosophical concepts, for Stoppard enjoys playing with language and toying with ambiguity. This show is an ideal choice for a rip-roaring evening of fun. Sit back and enjoy the ludicrous antics and word play of the characters. For theatre lovers who like Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot, then this is not to be missed, although this show can be appreciated on many different levels and is basically great value for money entertainment to lighten a winter's evening.
