Suffolk-born artist Jelly Green will be exhibiting a new collection this month inspired by time spent in residence at Snape Maltings during spring.
The 22-year-old figurative painter, who lives between Brighton and Suffolk, will display her Waltzing Reeds exhibition at Snape Maltings Gallery from Saturday, June 13 until Thursday July 16.
The exhibition will feature a collection of charcoal drawings, watercolour and oil paintings, all featuring the marshes at Snape Maltings, captured during March this year.
Jelly said: “While I was there I became increasingly aware of how the light changed over the landscape, how it seemed to dance over the reeds, going back and forth, always moving and always changing.
“Being the first week of March, I also experienced all kinds of weather both sunshine and snow. I hadn’t anticipated the landscape to transform so much and sometimes within minutes. This made my subject hugely dynamic and exciting, but also very challenging.”
Jelly is originally from Rendham near Saxmundham and much of her work is inspired by local surroundings.
The former Framlingham Thomas Mills student has been mentored by artist Maggi Hambling since she was 16 and continues to study with her in London.
“She always says you have to push yourself, get outside your comfort zone and not play it safe, so I wanted to explore something completely new.”
