SEOS is a not-for-profit artist-led organisation that allows for the public to visit artists’ studios and workplaces in this area. Not only is there the opportunity to view the work of the artists, but also to meet them in person to discuss their work and often, see them demonstrating their skill on the day.

A wide range of work will be on show from traditional oil and watercolours to ceramics, textiles and fine metalwork from the 322 artists that have signed up this year.

Paul Williams, chairman of SEOS says, “We’re looking forward to another successful year of SEOS; the artists that sign up are so talented and passionate about what they do, this event makes for a fantastic day out for visitors”.

This event is free to the public and a full colour guide will be published and distributed throughout the SEOS area in May. This guide includes a description of each artist’s work with contact details, travel directions and maps. The dates the artists are exhibiting will also be published in the guide which allows you to plan your own route depending on which artists really capture your interest! Paul highly recommends taking a bit of time to plan your route in advance including any places to stop for lunch to ensure an enjoyable day that runs smoothly. The guide will also be available on their website as flip book or downloadable PDF file: www.seos-art.org

SEOS are keen to keep growing, in terms of the number of artists exhibiting, as well as the visitor numbers. Last year’s estimated number of visitors was a huge 30,000 and they anticipate this amount again, if not more. Feedback from Open Studio members is that joining allows artists to feel part of a team as often, they work alone. This community feel combined with the exposure the membership provides through the website, social media and the directory, provides a great platform for artists.

There will be pieces of art on sale at the studios but SEOS stress that there is no obligation to buy; the experience is designed to open your mind to art and to leave with your head full of inspiration. If you do make a purchase, you’ll have the satisfaction from buying directly from the creator.

This is a once a year opportunity for all art and craft lovers, as well as a great day out for the family. It only lasts for 17 days in June so be sure to pick up a guide and open your mind to art this summer.
