Surrey has been used as a film location for many a blockbuster movie and the county’s hotels, woods and villages are no stranger to visits from the Hollywood A-list. Here’s just a few of the movies that have been, at least in part, filmed in Surrey

Waverley Abbey, near Farnham

As a mysterious, incurable virus spreads throughout the UK, a handful of survivors stop to find sanctuary in Surrey (well, for one scene at least).

47 Ronin (2012)

Frensham Ponds, near Farnham

The Keanu Reeves starring samurai movie was based at Shepperton Studios but also ventured further afield to Frensham Ponds. Tonnes of slate from the film set was donated to be used as seating at the park that borders Shepperton Studios’ backlot.

360 (2011)

Dunsfold Park, near Cranleigh

Hollywood actor Sir Anthony Hopkins took a moment out from filming 360 at Dunsfold Park (on their famous film-friendly Boeing 747) to praise the efforts of the life-saving crew of Surrey Air Ambulance, who are based there. It's also the home of Top Gear.

44 Inch Chest (2009)

Ham House, Richmond

A jealous husband and his friends plot the kidnapping of his wife’s lover in this caper starring John Hurt, Ray Winstone and Ian McShane. Scenes were shot at Ham House and somehow, a pair of Winstone’s boxer shots remain!

Actress Kate Winslet filmed for the Alan Rickman directed A Little Chaos at the National Trust’s Ham House near Richmond. The film depicts a pair of landscape gardeners competing to design a fountain at Versailles for Louis XIV.

A Matter of Life and Death (1946)

Shere

Appearing briefly as Dr Reeve’s village, A Matter of Life and Death stars one-time Puttenham resident David Niven as a British wartime aviator - blink and you’ll miss the picturesque village.

A Night to Remember (1958)

Great Fosters, Egham

A group of wealthy people prepare for their doomed voyage on the Titanic at the luxurious Great Fosters hotel, Egham.

Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass (2016)

Shepperton Studios and more

Following on from 2010’s Alice in Wonderland, Disney’s Alice In Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass began filming at Shepperton Studios – and then spread locally. Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska and Helena Bonham Carter are this time joined by Sacha Baron Cohen. There have also been sightings at Horsley Park in East Horsley.

An American Werewolf in London (1981)

The Black Swan, Effingham

The Black Swan doubled as the ominously named Slaughtered Lamb in this cult classic starring Jenny Agutter and Brian Glover.

Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) Bourne Wood, near Farnham The bulk of filming took place at Shepperton Studios, but Bourne Wood was one of the external sets and provided the scenery for an explosive car chase through snow. The cast, including Robert Downey Jr and Samuel L Jackson, also popped into Petersham Nurseries near Richmond for lunch.

Royal Holloway, Egham

Hollywood actress Sharon Stone was among the cast members who spent several days in the Founders Building at Royal Holloway which was used to double as a psychiatric Institute.

Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2003)

Shere

Look closely at the final wedding scene and behind Renee Zellweger and co, and you’ll spot the pretty St James’s Church where 2007’s Surrey Life carol concert was also held.

Bourne Wood, near Farnham

While the bulk of this all American superhero flick was actually shot at Shepperton Studios, scenes were also filmed in our county’s famous Bourne Woods.

Carrington (1995)

Winkworth Arboretum, near Godalming

The story of the relationship between painter Dora Carrington and author Lytton Strachey in a World War One England, starring Emma Thompson, featured scenes shot at the Surrey beauty spot.

Carry on Columbus (1992)

Frensham Ponds, near Farnham

We might not have any beaches in Surrey, but this didn’t stop the makers of this classic Carry On film using Frensham Ponds, to the south of Farnham, to represent the American coastline.

Carry on Cowboy (1965)

Chobham Common

There was a stagecoach situated at Chobham Common for this comedy. One scene is said to have been re-shot because somebody drove his Rover along the main road (Staple Hill) in shot, having refused instructions from security to wait.

Carry on Jack (1963)

Frensham Ponds, near Farnham

Starring Kenneth Williams and Bernard Cribbins, on this occasion Frensham Ponds was used to double up as the Spanish coastline.

Casino Royale (2006)

Dunsfold Park, near Cranleigh

Home to the popular BBC TV show Top Gear, Dunsfold Park, near Cranleigh, also doubled as Miami International Airport in the James Bond blockbuster, Casino Royale, starring Daniel Craig.

Children of Men (2006)

Bourne Wood, near Farnham

Dystopian science fiction film featuring Clive Owen and Leatherhead’s own Michael Caine. The hideout of Jasper, played by Caine, was filmed in Bourne Woods.

Clash of the Titans 2 (2012)

Redlands Wood, Coldharbour

Based at Shepperton Studios for much of the filming, this movie starring Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes and the Caterham born Bill Nighy also ventured out into the Surrey countryside. Signs were spotted by the famous Dorking Cockerel roundabout.

Close My Eyes (1991)

Newark Priory, Pyrford

Starring Alan Rickman and a picnic scene at Newark Priory, Pyrford, the cast then take a stroll along the Wey to Newark Lock. The grand party that is the stage for the film’s climax was shot at Polesden Lacey, Great Bookham.

Criminal (2015)

Various

This action film starring Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones, Alice Eve and Ryan Reynolds has filmed in Kingston, Croydon and at Blackbushe Airport near Camberley since its inception.

Cuban Fury (2014)

Send Marsh

Nick Frost’s new comedy landed in Send Marsh in August 2012. A house in Willow Drive was used for interior shots with one shot outside where Frost cycled through into Maple Road. He also filmed in Lower Sunbury.

The Da Vinci Code (2006)

Fairfield Halls, Croydon

Keep your eyes peeled in The Da Vinci Code, which starred Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou, and you might just spot the Fairfield Halls in Croydon, which was used to double as a lecture theatre.

The Dark Knight (2008)

Longcross, near Chertsey

The Dark Knight, starring Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman, may be set in the none more gothic city of Gotham. Infamously, a stuntman was killed during filming at the QinetiQ site, Longcross, near Chertsey, in 2007.

The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

Croydon

While some locals may have been interested in taking this one into their own hands, Delta Point in Croydon was put through a Hollywood-style destruction for this instalment of the multimillion-dollar Batman movie series.

Dark Shadows (2012)

Bourne Wood, near Farnham

Tim Burton assembled an all star cast, including regular protagonists Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter - and decamped to Farnham.

Diana (2013)

Fetcham Park, near Leatherhead

The beautiful salon, the ante room and dining room, were turned into a film set as the Oscar nominated actress Naomi Watts and award-winning director Oliver Hirschbiegel visited for a few days. Fetcham Park doubled as The Ritz in Paris.

Dick Barton Strikes Back (1949)

Haslemere

Cinema goers to the old Rex Cinema (now demolished) still remember one particular scene from this film, which was shot in a deserted Haslemere High Street early in the morning. Dick Barton stood outside what was then ‘MacFisheries’ shop on the eastern side of the High Street.

Dorian Gray (2009)

Painshill Park, Cobham

The 18th century landscape garden’s lakeside was transformed into Hampstead Heath for the Oscar Wilde adaption. Wimbledon lad Ben Barnes starred.

The Duchess (2008)

Clandon Park, East Clandon

Starring Keira Knightley in the title role, Ralph Fiennes as her husband and Hayley Atwell as his mistress, the cast spent several days at Clandon Park, which doubles for the former aristocratic residence Devonshire House in London.

The Earth Dies Screaming (1965)

Shere

Location filming took place in Shere - it was also one of several 1960s British horror films to be scored by the avant-garde Elisabeth Lutyens, whose father, Edwin Lutyens, designed Manor House Lodge in the village.

Elizabeth, the Golden Age (2007)

This Cate Blanchett starring historical thriller was filmed in part at Waverley Abbey, Bourne Woods and Frensham Little Pond.

Finding Neverland (2004)

Richmond Theatre, Richmond

One of a host of films to be shot at this famous theatre, Johnny Depp and co descended on Richmond for this semi-biographical film about playwright JM Barrie.

Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994)

Betchworth, near Dorking

The beautiful St Michael’s was one of three churches used in this classic romantic comedy that propelled Hugh Grant to international fame. Another was St Peter and St Paul, the Saxon church at Albury Park, Albury.

From Time to Time (2010)

Nonsuch Mansion, Cheam

Dominic West, Timothy Spall and Dame Maggie Smith star in this adaptation of Lucy M Boston’s magical Green Knowe books.

Gladiator (2000)

Bourne Wood, near Farnham

The opening battle scene of Ridley Scott’s epic, starring Russell Crowe and former Surrey resident Oliver Reed, was filmed in Bourne Wood, near Farnham, where the wooded countryside provided the perfect substitute for the forests of Southern Germany.

The Golden Compass (2007)

Bourne Wood, near Farnham

One of the biggest films of 2007, some of the woodland scenes in The Golden Compass, starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig, were shot at Bourne Wood.

Golden Eye (1995)

Epsom Downs Racecourse

The Queen’s Stand at Epsom Downs Racecourse has been used in several films, and on this occasion doubled up as a Russian army airport in this Pierce Brosnan starring Bond classic.

Green Zone (2010)

Sandown Park Racecourse

Matt Damon movie, Green Zone, features airport scenes at Saddam International Airport, which were actually shot at Sandown Park in Esher. Scenes also featured Windlesham’s £70 million mansion, Updown Court.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

Tilsey Farm, Bramley

Scenes shot in Bramley for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which were filmed in summer 2013, featured the intergalactic stars surrounded by flaming wreckage - slightly different to the usual pace of village life then. Shepperton Studios was also used.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

Virginia Water

There was not much whinging to be heard in Virginia Water, as Harry spots a Hippogriff and later confronts the Dementors at the famous lake. Incidentally, Harry’s only surviving relatives, The Dursleys, live in Little Whinging, a fictional town located in Surrey...

Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire (2005)

Virginia Water

Scenes from the fourth instalment of The Goblet of Fire were filmed on the banks on Virginia Water lake.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)

Bourne Wood, near Farnham

The cast spent several days on location in Farnham for the filming of The Half-Blood Prince - though it didn’t all go quite to plan... Filming suffered a setback when the set was “oversmoked” after the movie crew used too much special-effect fog and several scenes had to be reshot. Scenes were also shot at Surbiton train station.

Hippie Hippie Shake (2007)

Albury, near Guildford

Actress Sienna Miller caused a stir when she filmed a ‘naked’ scene in a pond at Albury, near Guildford, dressed in next to nothing.

The Holiday (2006)

Shere, near Dorking

Cameron Diaz and Jude Law were among a host of stars who descended on Shere for the filming of romantic comedy The Holiday. Several shops and the 15th century pub, The White Horse, appear in the film. Scenes were also shot in Godalming.

Hope and Glory (1987)

Wisley airfield

The main street in this British comedy-drama was constructed on Wisley airfield runway. Our contributor says the attention to detail was amazing at the front of the ‘houses’ and ‘gardens’ although the backs were just shells - and the ‘London’ skyline in the background was a huge painting.

Hot Fuzz (2007)

Waverley Abbey, near Farnham

The Simon Pegg and Nick Frost starring madcap police flick sees the protagonists managing to run from Wells in Somerset to Waverley Abbey and back again in one scene - it’s the bit where Sgt Nicholas Angel (Pegg) gets stabbed by his partner PC Danny Butterman (Frost).

Hound of the Baskervilles (1959)

Frensham Ponds, near Farnham

Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee star in this version of the famous Sherlock Holmes tale, which paid a visit to Frensham Ponds during filming. The original book was written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle at his Surrey home, Undershaw.

Howard’s End (1992)

Royal Holloway, Egham

This film stars Vanessa Redgrave, Helena Bonham Carter and Emma Thompson, as well as the stunning Founder’s Building at Royal Holloway.

Hugo (2011)

Shepperton Studios, near Walton-on-Thames

Martin Scorsese’s first venture across the pond - and in 3-D, too! Executive produced by Johnny Depp, delays in filming caused parking chaos at the famous studios as Captain America and Dancing on Ice were also on location. The automaton was created by an East Molesey maker.

The Huntsman (2016)

Waverley Abbey

The prequel to Snow White and The Huntsman, Chris Hemsworth reprised his role as The Huntsman with Waverley Abbey hosting the film crews between April and May 2015. False walls were added to the historic monument…

Chertsey

No stranger to turning dreams into reality, the modern steel and glass lobby of a Chertsey building, previously used by gaming giants EA, was where Arthur demonstrates the paradox of the Penrose steps to Ariadne.

Into the Woods (2014)

Waverley Abbey, near Farnham

A big screen movie adaptation of the celebrated theatre classic by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, Into the Woods is directed by Rob Marshall and stars Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp. Rapunzel’s castle is a half-historical, half-new creation making use of Waverley Abbey near Farnham. Further scenes were also shot at Byfleet Manor in Byfleet.

The Invisible Woman (2013)

Devil’s Punch Bowl, Hindhead

Ralph Fiennes' latest film about Charles Dickens, sees Hampstead Heath being represented by the Devil’s Punch Bowl in Hindhead. Filming also took place at Southside House in Wimbledon.

Iris (2001)

River Wey Navigation

The true story of the lifelong romance between novelist Iris Murdoch and her husband John Bayley, Iris stars Dame Judi Dench, Kate Winslet, Jim Broadbent - and the River Wey.

The Iron Lady (2011)

Wentworth Estate

This quiet corner of Virginia Water got the Hollywood treatment when a house on the Wentworth Estate was transformed for Meryl Streep’s biopic about former Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher.

Bourne Wood, near Farnham

A modern day fairy tale in which the long-standing peace between men and giants in Farnham (well, during the filming at least) is threatened. Filming has also taken place at the Hampton Estate in Seale where a 30-foot bean stalk has been built.

John Carter (2012)

Ham House, Richmond

Celebrating its 400th anniversary in 2010, Ham House became the set of this Disney sci-fi flick.

Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014)

Garrison Church of St Barbara, Deepcut

A comic book remake featuring a cast including Samuel L Jackson, Michael Caine, Leonardo DiCaprio and Colin Firth, the Garrison Church of St Barbara, Deepcut took centre stage in a number of scenes - a replica wall was constructed at the church and stained glass windows removed for filming.

The Last Valley (1971)

Frensham Ponds

Michael Caine and Omar Sharif were among the stars to head to this quiet corner of south west Surrey for this historical drama set during the Thirty Years' War. A large mediaeval castle was constructed out of timber and other materials in the shallows of the Great Pond, complete with moat and drawbridge. Filming took place at night, involving horsemen attacking the castle while (dummy) defenders were thrown from the battlements into the lake.

Lawrence of Arabia (1962)

Chobham Common, Chobham

The scenes where Peter O’Toole comes off his motorbike were shot at the largest National Nature Reserve in the south-east, Chobham Common.

Legend (2015)

County Hall, Kingston

1960s icons The Krays live again through the double-barrelled performance of Tom Hardy, as he takes on the roles of both Reggie and Ronnie. The filming saw Hardy (times two) in the dock at Kingston’s County Hall.

Love Actually (2003)

Epsom Downs Racecourse

Everyone’s favourite scene in Love Actually - the bit where they show the arrivals hall at Heathrow Airport - was actually shot at Epsom Downs Racecourse. Another airport in the film was actually Sandown Park in Esher, which was transformed into Milwaukee International Airport – apparently, if you freeze frame as Colin is coming out of the doors of the airport, you can see the Sandown Park logo on the doors.

Hankley Common

As the world celebrated Shakespeare’s 450th birthday in 2014, French Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard and actor Michael Fassbender headed to Elstead to film a new adaption of Macbeth at Hankley Common.

Made in Dagenham (2010)

Fairfield Halls, Croydon

Starring Bob Hoskins, this dramatisation of the 1968 strike at the Ford Dagenham car plant, where female workers walked out in protest against sexual discrimination, was, in fact, partly made in Croydon.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E (2015)

Hankley Common

Directed by Guy Ritchie, this rebooting of The Man from U.N.C.L.E stars Henry Cavill, Alicia Vikander and Hugh Grant visited Hankley Common near Elstead.

The Man Who Knew Infinity (TBC)

Loseley Park, near Guildford

After eight years of development, The Man Who Knew Infinity is finally filming with Dev Patel, Jeremy Irons and newcomer Devika Bhise starring. Patel will portray math genius Srinivasa Ramanujan and Jeremy Irons will play GH Hardy, who recognized Ramanujan’s brilliance. Shooting is also taking place at Trinity College, Cambridge — it’s said to be the first film to be shot at Trinity.

The Man Who Knew Too Little (1997)

Dingwall Road, Croydon

In this film starring American actor Bill Murray, there is a scene where he is involved in a police chase on Croydon flyover and Dingwall Road.

Maybe Baby (2000)

Epsom Downs Racecourse

On this occasion, the distinctive Queen's Stand doubled as the BBC’s offices in the Ben Elton directed film, Maybe Baby. In his own life, the director has links to the towns of Godalming and Guildford.

Molly Moon (2014)

Shere

Starring Ben Miller, Celia Imrie, and Joan Collins, this independent British film is based on a series of best-selling children’s fantasy books by Georgia Byng, which are centred around the 11-year-old orphan, Molly.

The Mummy (1999)

Frensham Ponds, near Farnham

Another film to feature the stunning Frensham Ponds – Surrey’s own landlocked sandy beach – is The Mummy, which stars Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz and John Hannah.

The Mummy (2017)

Waverley Abbey, near Farnham

With Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe no strangers to filming in Surrey, the latest instalment of The Mummy franchise has transformed Waverley Abbey. The site is expected to be closed to the public until mid-June due to filming.

My Week with Marilyn (2011)

Parkside House, Englefield Green

Filmed at Parkside House, which Marilyn Monroe had rented during her stay in England in 1956 when she was filming The Prince and The Showgirl with Laurence Olivier, the screen siren’s visit to Surrey has been immortalised with this star-studded film by Simon Curtis.

Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang (2010)

While Titsey Farm is probably best known for being transformed into an authentic French farmstead for Steven Spielberg's World War One epic War Horse, it also provided the farm location for the second Nanny McPhee film.

Never Let Me Go (2011)

Ham House, Richmond

Andrew Garfield (raised in Epsom and taking the lead role in Spiderman 3), Carey Mulligan (Oscar nominated former Woldingham School pupil) and a certain Keira Knightley (who attended Esher College) star. Scenes were also shot at Hampton Court House in East Molesey.

Guildford Cathedral, Guildford

Several scenes from this cult film, starring Gregory Peck and Lee Remick, were shot in the impressive interior of Guildford Cathedral.

Outside Bet (2012)

Sandown Park Racecourse

Starring Jenny Agutter, Bob Hoskins and Lucy Drive, Outside Bet sees a life-long group of friends at the bad end of a redundancy pay-out and invest their savings into a racehorse. Scenes were shot at the Esher racecourse.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)

Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey

During filming of the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie at Hampton Court Palace, Johnny Depp asked for an after-hours tour. A carriage chase in the film spans four locations, from Hampton Court to a full-sized set exterior at Pinewood Studios via St. James Palace and Middle Temple in London.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2015)

Frensham Ponds, near Farnham

Jane Austen's classic tale of the tangled relationships between lovers from different social classes in 19th century England is faced with a new challenge - an army of undead zombies. Dog walkers at Frensham Little Pond were treated to full blood and gore covered costume action for this American horror movie. Here's an artsy pic of part of the set.

The Rainbow Jacket (1954)

Lingfield

A 1954 British Ealing Studios horse racing drama featuring, among others, Robert Morley, Kay Walsh, Bill Owen, Honor Blackman and Sid James. The most recognisable Lingfield aspect in the film was a shot of Bill Owen (‘Sam’) walking away from the church towards Church Road and past an old half-timbered building which, once upon a time, was a butcher’s shop. The film included aspects of corruption in sport – so, no change there then after some 60 years!

Reds (1981)

Frensham Ponds, near Farnham

A radical American journalist becomes involved with the Communist revolution in, erm, the usually tranquil Frensham Ponds – which provided the setting of a house in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Starring Warren Beatty and Diane Keaton.

Reunion at Fairborough (1985)

Shere

World War Two vets travel to England for a reunion at their old base. Once there, one rekindles an old romance with an old flame. One of Surrey’s most picturesque villages, Shere, makes an appearance alongside Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr.

Robin Hood (2010)

Bourne Wood, near Farnham

One of the many blockbusters to be filmed in these Farnham woods, Robin Hood saw Russell Crowe staying at Pennyhill Park in Bagshot and filming battle scenes in the woods, where a castle was temporarily erected. Filming also took place on the Hampton Estate around Elstead and at Virginia Water Lake.

The Ruling Class (1972)

Shere

The village of Shere doubles as Gurney estate village in this British black comedy film starring Peter O’Toole, Alastair Sim, Arthur Lowe and Harry Andrews.

Rush (2013)

Blackbushe Airport, near Camberley and Longcross, Chobham

Two-time Academy Award winner Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind, Frost/Nixon), teamed up with writer Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Queen), on Rush, a spectacular big-screen re-creation of the merciless 1970s rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda.

Sex and Drugs and Rock ‘n’ Roll (2010)

Runnymede Campus, Egham

Much of the Ian Dury biopic, Sex and Drugs and Rock ‘n’ Roll, was based at the Runnymede Campus, which was formerly part of Brunel University.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011)

Richmond Park, Richmond

Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law reprised their roles as Holmes and Watson respectively, with Guy Ritchie filming at Richmond Park, Hampton Court Palace in East Molesey, and Bourne Woods near Farnham, among other locations.

Skyfall (2012)

Hankley Common, near Elstead

All action shooting took place with Daniel Craig, Dame Judi Dench et al on MoD land near Elstead, where the childhood home of James Bond was created. The mountains and lake were later added by CGI.

Snow White and the Huntsman (2012)

Bourne Woods, Farnham

Twilight star Kristen Stewart leads a cast that shot at Bourne Wood and Frensham Ponds, near Farnham for a twisted version of the fairy tale. The National Trust site was transformed into a fishing village for the film.

Spiceworld: the Movie (1997)

Ham House, Richmond

Richard E Grant joined the Spice Girls at the National Trust’s Ham House for this 'musical' adventure.

Suffragette (2014)

Painshill Park, Cobham

The hotly anticipated Suffragette movie, featuring A-list film stars former Woldingham School pupil Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter and Meryl Streep, made use of Painshill’s tranquil lakeside setting.

Superman II (1980)

Chobham Common

The largest National Nature Reserve in the south-east of England, Chobham Common was transformed for the Gene Hackman and Christopher Reeve starring Superman II. A mock up of a small American town with a tarmac road, shops, a car lot and more was constructed to replicate where the super villains land on earth.

A steamboat dubbed 'Adelaar' magically popped up at Virginia Water, as the stars of the latest Warner Bros blockbuster, Tarzan: The Untamed, headed to the Surrey beauty spot. The film stars Alexander Skarsgard as Tarzan, Margot Robbie as Jane Porter and Christoph Waltz as Captain Leon Rom.

Thor: The Dark World (2013)

Bourne Wood, Farnham

Starring Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, Thor: The Dark World sees Bourne Wood host a battle between two kingdoms, featuring a ‘substantial amount of stunts, special effects and approximately 300 extras’.

War Horse (2012)

Longcross Studios, Chertsey

Steven Spielberg has been filming his adaption of War Horse on set in Chertsey and also location shooting at an abandoned Wisley airfield (trench scenes) and at Bourne Woods, Farnham (an army base).

War Machine (2016)

Dunsfold Park, near Cranleigh

A satirical Netflix film, said to be inspired by the book The Operators: The Wild And Terrifying Inside Story Of America's War In Afghanistan by the late Michael Hastings, Brad Pitt and his co-stars, including a Barack Obama look-a-like, made the most of Dunsfold’s famous 747 aircraft.

W.E. (2011)

Coverwood Lakes, Ewhurst

Pop star turned director Madonna, filmed scenes for her two-tiered romantic drama focusing on the affair between King Edward VIII and American divorcée Wallis Simpson at the privately owned lakes.

The Wedding Date (2005)

Shere

A romantic comedy directed by Clare Kilner, The Wedding Date starring Debra Messing and Dermot Mulroney is based on the book Asking for Trouble by Elizabeth Young. It features St James’s Church in Shere for a wedding scene, as well as Chilworth Manor and Winkworth Arboretum near Godalming.

Women in Love (1969)

Broome Hall, Coldharbour

The home of actor Oliver Reed in the Sixties, Broome Hall was used to shoot scenes for the Ken Russell film of DH Lawrence’s controversial Women in Love, in which Reed starred with Glenda Jackson and Alan Bates.

Wonder Woman (2017)

Bourne Wood, near Farnham

With the latest imagining of Wonder Woman hitting cinema screens for the first time in spring 2016, as part of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the superheroine has also beeny working on war time scenes for her own headline feature in Farnham’s Bourne Wood.

The World is Not Enough (1999)

Hankley Common, Elstead

The Pierce Brosnan starring Bond flick features action sequences, including the main pipeline explosion, filmed at Hankley Common. More recently the location has been revisited as the setting for Bond's childhood home, Skyfall.

World War Z (2012)

Dunsfold Park, near Cranleigh

Not only have Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie been making quite a stir in Richmond by moving to the town during filming, but Dunsfold Park was also invaded by zombies as part of the nightmarish post-apocalyptic film.

Young Victoria (2007)

Ham House, Richmond

A dramatization of the turbulent first years of Queen Victoria’s rule, Ham House saw Rupert Friend, Miranda Richardson and Mark Strong on location for filming.
