This reservoir in North Yorkshire attracts visitors all types.

The Washburn Valley has a series of reservoirs that has become visitor attractions in their own right, especially those visiting nearby Harrogate or the adjacent Yorkshire Dales.

The Fewston, Swinsty and Thruscross Reservoirs provide water to the city of Leeds while the most southern body of water, Lindley Wood Reservoir serves as a compensation flow to the River Washburn.

In recent times, the reservoirs have brought many people to the southern section of the Nidderdale Area of Natural Beauty, in search of outdoor pursuits such as walking and fishing.

Fewston is arguably the most visited of the quartet due to its proximity to the village of Blubberhouses and, more significantly, to the A59, one of the major roads within the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Swinsty is possibly the most intriguing of all four, beneath the waters are the remains of New Hall, originally a home to the Fairfax family. While the 17th century Swinsty Hall that sits on the banks of Swinsty Reservoir is currently the home of England manager, Gareth Southgate.
