These are the stunning pictures which have taken the prizes in our search for the best amateur photographers in Lancashire and the Lake District. Since we launched this year’s competition, which was once again sponsored by Wilkinsons Cameras, we have been inundated with hundreds of brilliant images taken all over the county.

Our panel of judges had a tough task to select a shortlist of 12 pictures which feature in the 2015 Lancashire Life calendar, and an even harder job to choose three winners. After much careful consideration the judging panel – led by David Parkinson from Wilkinsons, Lancashire Life picture editor John Cocks and editor Roger Borrell – picked this shot of Ashness Bridge to win first prize. It was taken by Roger Green of Ainsdale and he will win receive a Canon EOS 100D and EF-S 18-55 IS STM worth £479.99.

His winning picture appears on the front of the calendar and John Cocks said: ‘The standard of the pictures uploaded to our website has once again been incredibly high and it was not an easy job at all to select the shortlist, let alone the top three.

‘Roger’s winning picture was a near-perfect composition – the eye is drawn into the view which is well framed by the hills and trees. The grey rocks, water and bridge in the foreground contrast well with the vibrant colours in the sky and on the hillsides. It’s a terrific shot which has obviously taken a lot of thought and planning and I think it’s a deserving winner of the competition.’

Robyn Yates of Horwich took the second prize of a Canon Powershot S120 worth £399.99 for her picture of a misty morning in the fields near Wigan. And the judges chose this photo of a waterman’s cottage at Anglezarke taken by John Lever of Clayton-le-Woods to win the third prize of a Canon Powershot SX 510 worth £219.99.
