We reveal the winners of our 2017 photography competition sponsored by Wilkinsons Cameras.
Great-grandmother Sylvia Davies is the winner of our 2017 readers’ photography competition. The 67-year-old from Audlem took the winning shot while walking in the village on a cold and snowy evening.
‘I’ve always loved taking pictures,’ she said. ‘But I can’t believe I’ve won. It’s amazing. I’m thrilled.’
A former member of Nantwich Camera Club, Sylvia almost gave up her hobby when digital technology overtook the film cameras she was familiar with.
‘I’ve got very little confidence in myself and I was a bit scared when digital cameras came in. I left the club and put my camera away. But on a day out in Llandudno I thought “why not give it a go” and bought a compact digital camera.’
The camera she bought was a pocket-sized Canon Powershot sx 200is and it proves the point that you don’t need bag loads of expensive equipment to take impressive photographs.
‘I have had a camera with me nearly all my life,’ Sylvia added. ‘I started out with a Box Brownie when I was a young girl and I snap anything and everything. These days it’s mostly birds and flowers in the garden.
‘When I took this picture it was snowing and I decided to take a walk round the village in the late afternoon. I took several I was quite pleased with, but this one was my favourite.’
It also caught the eye of our panel of judges and Sylvia will now be able to snap away with a black Sony A6000 camera with an E16-50mm f3.6/5.6 PZ lens worth £549 and provided by competition sponsors Wilkinson Cameras.
Andy Light from Runcorn won the second prize of a £150 Wilkinson Cameras gift voucher for his shot of Budworth Mere. A £75 Wilkinson Cameras gift voucher went to Philip Bale of Chester whose picture of a field of oil seed rape was awarded third place
