We announce the winners of the Cheshire Life Photography Competition, in association with Wilkinson Cameras.
This beautiful shot of a pink and orange hued sunset at Meols is the winner of our 2019 readers' photography competition. It was taken by Andy Light, a keen amateur photographer, who has won a Canon EOS M50 camera with a 15-45mm lens, worth £649, from Wilkinson Cameras.
'My passion for photography started five years ago - I purchased my first digital camera,' said Andy. 'As with any new hobby there is a steep learning curve and I am still learning. My favourite and most rewarding to take are landscape and seascape, although nowadays there is a little more planning and attention to detail involved. Trying to capture an image in the right light and weather conditions can be a challenge, sometimes returning to a location a number of times can reveal surprising results as the elements are constantly changing.
'I've always been active and there's nothing more satisfying than being out walking, cycling or exploring my surroundings. After photographing along the coastline at Meols, on the Wirral Peninsula, a freshly painted boat on the beach caught my eye. The planning and timing to photograph it was crucial, as the outgoing tide had to coincide with sunset. Fortunately for me everything fell into place the following week, the boat was in the perfect position, the low position of the soft sunlight illuminating its side, and the outgoing tide had left shallow pools of sea water. All of these elements suddenly came together to produce one of my favourite images.'
The shot was voted into first place by our panel of judges - including editor Katie Mulloy and David Parkinson from Wilkinson Cameras. An atmopsheric shot of a millpond-like West Kirby Marine Lake by Lukasz Lukomski came in second, with a glorious capture of harvest time in Winwick taking third prize, taking home prizes of £150 and £75 vouchers.
