Equestrian writer and photographer Beth Eastham spent the day at the Vale of Lune hunt show
Crowds enjoyed a fabulous day at the sixth Annual Vale of Lune hunt show at Myerscough College with Emily White, of Kendal, taking the title of ‘supreme of show.’
With a variety of different classes available, there was something for everyone from showing to working hunter to combined training as well as three championships and a £50 ‘Chase Me Charlie’, a gymkhana game where the jump gets higher each time.
Prizes were given to competitors who placed 1st to 3rd in each class and the combined training had qualifiers for the Myerscough CT Championship in August.
Two rings were busy all day with a good number of entrants in most classes. The organisers expressed their thanks to Myerscough for the use of the facilities - it was a great venue with lots of parking as well as a large indoor international arena. For next year they are planning more showing classes.
Supreme winner Emily White said: ‘We’ve had our pony just over three years and got her as a newly-broken three-year-old so I have worked hard to help her mature and gain experience. We have participated in many shows and competitions and had a very successful few years. To win the supreme has made all the hard work worthwhile. The Vale of Lune hunt show was a fantastic, well organised and friendly show.’
Christine Dumashie, of Thornton-Cleveleys, was reserve champion. She added: ‘We had a wonderful day. It was by far one of the most pleasant shows we have been to. My highland stallion, Moss Side Sandaig, who is six, won the m & m class then went to take champion and reserve supreme. He behaved impeccably all day. We have owned him since he was a foal.’
Blackpool rider Olivia Holt, on her cob Monty, said ‘We took him to the Vale of Lune hunt show to see how he would get on. The show was fabulous, there was lovely food, prizes and it was excellently organised. We will be returning next year!’ w
