The Fylde Coast Youth Theatre Company make their debut with Now in Neverland at the Kirkham Community Centre.

Like most things in life, everything has to start somewhere. What once began as a small idea four years ago has become something very real indeed. The company is the brainchild of founder, Debbie Parkinson. Debbie has worked very hard over the years and put in a lot of effort to not only get the group up and running, but to get them to put on their first ever performance.

Now in Neverland is the story of Peter Pan written by Suzan Holder. If the surname sounds familiar then you may know her husband is singer/songwriter, Noddy from the band Slade who always put in a show over Christmas. Suzan’s script was witty and charming and perfect for this young, talented cast who played on the audience participation very well.

Many of the children in the production were appearing on stage for the very first time and they were doing something that a lot of people couldn’t. To have the courage to stand up in front of people and sing, act and dance at a very young age gains nothing but respect. The children seemed to enjoy performing as well which is a key to being a theatre actor. A lot of them have also been revising for their GCSE’s in between rehearsals which displays real dedication.

There were some genuinely talented youngsters performing their roles very well. The play itself had a definite mixture of characters which tested a lot of their skills with dance routines and singing. There were also some very comedic roles written especially for the show that drew out the best of the performances and laughter from the audience.

Sadly, the show was performing for one night only, but this is just the start and the future is definitely going to be bigger and brighter.

There are three things that the Fylde Coast Youth Theatre Company always adhere to and these words have become their motto.

Get Creative, Get Confident, Get Heard.

Those words can be inspiration for us all.
