The rags-to-riches biography of the superstar dressage horse Valegro, who with his rider Charlotte Dujardin has won every title possible and are the reigning Olympic, World and European champions, is to be published as a hardback book in the autumn.

The book Valegro: Champion Horse, by his owner and trainer Carl Hester from Newent in Gloucestershire, charts Valegro’s rise to stardom from a youngster in Holland rejected for stallion grading by the Dutch, as he was deemed not good enough, to the best dressage horse the world has ever seen.

This modern-day fairytale is completed by Valegro being ridden by Charlotte Dujardin who came to Carl’s yard as a groom and worked her way to the top.

Carl Hester MBE is one of the greatest ever equestrians, having ridden in four Olympics culminating in leading Great Britain to Gold Medal victory at London 2012. A trainer in worldwide demand he is the author of Carl Hester: Making it Happen, Real Life Dressage and Down to Earth Dressage.

The book, which includes 250 photographs, some of which have never been seen before, will be launched at the National Dressage Championships from 17th to 20th September, and will include a foreword by Zara Phillips MBE.

It will be published by Third Millennium
