Join Cheshire Life’s History columnist James Balme as he visits Farndon near the Cheshire and Welsh border.
The church of St Chads in Farndon Cheshire stands on a sandstone outcrop close to the river Dee on the English\Welsh border. This is no ordinary church and a place of worship is believed to have stood here since Celtic times. But it was in the 17th century when history was to devastate St Chad’s leaving the church in ruins with only the 14th century tower still standing following a campaign during the English Civil War between the Parliamentarians and the Royalists on the Welsh border.
Join me as I visit St Chad’s to take a look at the church and see for myself the damage inflicted on the tower by the Royalists during their campaign against the Parliamentarians.
