Scenic seasonal stroll overlooking the Strait

Want to walk off some calories in advance of all that festive food? Join the National Trust on a gentle winter wander at The White Cliffs of Dover on Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 December starting at 12 noon.

The guided walks, which begin at the Visitor Centre, encourage visitors to enjoy a scenic pre-Christmas stroll in the open air at this magical time of year and to learn more about the hidden history and geography of this National Trust coastal ‘property’ with its stunning views of the English Channel, the Strait of Dover and, more often than not, France and Belgium in the distance.

Janet Alcock, Volunteer Co-ordinator at South Foreland Lighthouse and walk leader, says: “This is a great time of year to dust off your walking boots or put on some sturdy shoes and enjoy the great outdoors whatever the weather. The walk will be no more than a mile in total and we can reward ourselves for our endeavours with turkey and cranberry sandwiches, mince pies and hot drinks in the Visitor Centre afterwards. Our guided walks are often over-subscribed so call us now to book your place. Tickets cost 10 with all proceeds going to support our valuable conservation work on the cliffs.”

To book your places on a Christmas guided walk, please phone 01304 202756. Alternatively, pop in to the Visitor Centre at the White Cliffs for some Christmas shopping and refreshments, and pick up a leaflet on this and all our other activities, including a wide range of new events for 2011 for all the family.

The Christmas guided walk runs from 12 noon-2pm on Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 December, 2010. Tickets cost 10 and include the guided walk, a turkey and cranberry sandwich, mince pie and hot drink.

The White Cliffs Visitor Centre is open every day except the 24, 25 & 26 December. Opening hours are 11am-4pm (November to February) and 10am-5pm (March to October). The centre is free to enter although a parking fee applies (free to National Trust members).
