You may have sponsored someone taking the challenge over the years, but what does it involve?

While social media crazes like the ice bucket challenge come and go, and big events such as the London Marathon are notoriously hard to even enter, it’s obvious to see why the Three Peaks Challenge is one of the most popular charity challenges in the country.

The three peaks that give the Yorkshire version its name are Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-ghent in the Yorkshire Dales. The height of these three summits combined is over 1,500 metres and the challenge is to climb the trio within 12 hours in a route that covers around 24 miles in total.

There are countless charities that organise challenges for groups of fundraisers, although a minimum amount of sponsorship is usually required in some cases. If you prefer not to go for the sponsorship option, you can attend an organised walk for a fee.

The Three Peaks Race is a fell race that traverses the Yorkshire Three Peaks and is held annually on the last weekend in April, starting and finishing in Horton in Ribblesdale.

As you can see from the gallery, our readers seem to enjoy taking photographs of the Three Peaks and we would love to see your photos of the Three Peaks.
