On Sunday August 10 at 12pm, Cheltenham will attempt to set the Guiness World Record for the most people Jiving simultaneously. However, 200 people are still needed to join the dance, taking place on the Promenade in the town centre.

To set the Guiness World Records title, over 1,000 people are needed to dance a variation of Jive on the Promenade for five minutes. The attempt is in support of local charity Winston’s Wish and sponsored by leading accountancy firm, Tayabali Tomlin.

Marketing Co-ordinator for Cheltenham Town Hall & Pittville Pump Room, Rachel Jones, said: “The enthusiasm for participating in the Guiness World Records official attempt has been fantastic; however we still need 200 people to come along on Sunday and join in to set the record. We’re calling on all dancers to come and get involved, and even if you’ve never danced before we will teach you at our final free jive lesson at Cheltenham Town Hall, 10am, before the official attempt at 12pm. So round up your friends, family and colleagues and take part in Cheltenham’s most exciting Guiness World Records official attempt!”

To help people prepare for the attempt, Cheltenham Town Hall are running a final free Jive Lesson from 10am-11am on Sunday August 10 before the official attempt at noon. Everyone is welcome, all ages and abilities, whether you want to brush up on your technique or learn the basics, with expert tuition from local dance teachers from Jazz Jive Swing. Following the final lesson dancers will be stewarded to The Prom to be counted into the Guiness World Records enclosure.

Partners are not required for this family friendly event and there is no lower or upper age limit, although children will need to be accompanied by an adult and will need to dance Jive for the duration of the attempt, in order to be successfully counted in the final total.

Participation in the world record attempt is free and does not require a ticket; however, registration is via the Cheltenham Dance Festival Facebook page: www.facebook.com/CheltDanceFest
