Saluting exceptional people

Unsung Cheshire heroes and their outstanding achievements were celebrated at the annual Cheshire Local Hero Awards. Held at the Tytherington Club in Macclesfield, the event, hosted by Cheshire radio station Silk 106.9 and sponsored by Cheshire East Council, saw a dozen awards handed out to some of the county’s most deserving people.

During the evening, £470 was also raised for Cheshire Young Carers.

A particularly poignant moment on the night was when the Pride of Cheshire award was given to the family of Congleton man, Tom Jackson, 30, who died after trying to save fellow backpacker Mia Ayliffe Chung, 21, as she was stabbed to death in Australia earlier this year.
