Nearly 300 guests, including shadow home secretary, Andy Burnham, gathered in the Manchester Suite at Old Trafford football stadium for the PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund annual ball.

Almost £10,000 was raised on the evening, with funds going toward supporting children who have suffered a tragic loss of a close family member through a violent crime such as murder or manslaughter.

The charity was set up by Bryn Hughes, the father of unarmed PC Nicola Hughes who was fatally shot following a routine burglary call in Manchester in 2012. ‘It was an evening full of food and entertainment enjoyed by our guests. People have been asking to book tickets for next year’s event already!’ he said.
