The 113th Brailsford Ploughing Match early in October attracted crowds of visitors keen to celebrate the countryside and local farming life.

It took place at Osmaston by kind permission of Sir Andrew and Lady Walker-Okeover. Amongst the many impressive competitors in the numerous ploughing competitions, Robin Worthington repeated his success of last year in the Open Horse Ploughing class, also taking the trophy for the Best Mare or Pair of Mares. Marcus Richmond and Matt Stone took the junior and senior open hedgecutting honours, while best lady hedgecutter was Helen Archer. The number of entries in all the classes and the range of trade stands was impressive – proof of another hugely successful and enjoyable event.

The Plough Sunday Service is at St Martin’s, Osmaston on 13th January, the annual dinner on 25th January and next year’s ploughing match is scheduled for 2nd October at Church Broughton, courtesy of Colin and Robert Prince.
