New event president Sophie, Countess of Wessex, tours this year’s Westmorland County Show

Exceptional examples of breeds wowed the crowds as 30,000 visitors flocked to the annual Westmorland County Show, held at Crooklands near Kendal. One of the largest one day shows in the country, it was voted 2018 Tourism Event of the Year.

The new president, Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, was this year’s special guest and she looked happy and relaxed as she chatted to judges and handed out rosettes and trophies to owners of some of the champions of the breeds. Chief Executive Christine Knipe gave the Countess a tour of the show ground saying that it had been wonderful to have another royal guest, following the visit of the Prince of Wales last year. ‘It’s just a privilege to be able to showcase Cumbrian agriculture in this way. We’ve got a lot visitors here from throughout the UK and we’ve heard nothing but compliments about the standard and quality of the event we put on,’ said Christine.
