The 88th Ashover Show was held on Wednesday 14th August.
The Show is very proud of its reputation as one of the finest traditional agricultural shows in the country and sporadic rainfall during the day did not deter its loyal band of supporters. Centre Ring entertainment throughout the day began with the arrival of the President, Mr Fred Hall, followed by the Barlow Red Barrows, the Guide Dogs for the Blind Display, the Sheep Grand National, the parade of hounds by the Four Shires Blood Hounds and the Barlow Hunt, the Heavy Horse Classes, Private Driving, the Grand Parade and Fancy Dress. The BSJA showjumping, light horse and livestock sections were all both well supported and included classes for young people - vital for the continuation of the Show. Other highly popular traditional components were the poultry section, dog show, including a display by the Animal Magic Dog Display Team, vintage tractor and vintage car displays, and the horticulure, appetising Ashover and craft marquees. Visitors were able to listen to Ashover Brass Band and the children watched the Punch and Judy Show or visited the popular Rides and Slides area. There were nearly 200 trade stands, selling everything from farm machinery to bird tables, so there really was something to interest everyone!
