The Duke and Duchess of Devonshire hosted a reception in the Painted Hall to mark the start of the annual Dodson & Horrell Chatsworth International Horse Trials.

Sponsors and officials, as well as owners and riders, were invited to toast the close of the first day of the event. There had been some exciting action as top riders from 12 countries had descended on the picturesque parkland, with Japanese Olympic hopeful Kazuma Tomoto taking an overnight lead in the prestigious four-star Dodson & Horrell Challenge.

A friendly and enjoyable evening in a lovely setting, the reception was a perfect prelude to the following two days of first-class competition.
