Crowds thronged the cobbled streets of Ulverston as the town celebrated its 21st annual Dickensian Festival.

Thousands of people - many of them in fancy dress and period costume - enjoyed street entertainment, craft stalls and plenty of food and drink as the weekend-long event took over the town centre. Ulverston has earned itself the nickname 'Festival Town' for its packed programme of celebrations every year, but its Dickensian Festival remains one of the most popular, bringing people from across the country.

Many of those taking part paraded through the streets, showing off colourful and ornate costumes where soldiers walked alongside a Dickensian cast including farm labourers, urchins and women representing every level of Victorian society.
