Estate agents who specialise in helping Brits buy in France have been expecting enquiries to dry up because of Brexit uncertainty. Yet many have had a record year and were still busy as the now-scrapped deadline of March 29 came and went.

“Now that the UK’s departure has been deferred - whether temporarily or indefinitely who knows – we expect to see a new wave of buyers, arranging viewing trips and to finding their dream French home” said Leeds based Barbara Heslop Director of Heslop & Platt Solicitors & French Law Specialists. “For those who wish to buy a holiday home, the possibility that the UK may leave the EU really shouldn’t get in the way of their plans. Thousands of non-EU nationals have bought a second home in France over the last 50 years with no difficulty at all.”

Leggett Immobilier has been “bowled over” by enquiries from Brits eager to sell up and move across the Channel. “They were not window shoppers,” said marketing director Joanna Leggett. “Our sales pipeline is 22% up on this time last year, which in itself was a record year. People are voting with their feet.”

With a robust outlook for the French property market and a great quality of life on offer France is sure to remain a big draw for Brits for years to come, whatever happens with Brexit, so come along to the French Property Exhibition and find your dream French home.

The French Property Exhibition takes place at Wetherby Racecourse on 18-19 May from 10am to 5pm.
