A campaign is growing to create a fashion buzz in the historic city of York. Stores and boutiques have come together to support innovative talent in the industry. York says it has something to offer every fashion-savvy shopper out there. Fashion City York aims to help retailers, designers and students celebrate the fashion scene with ground-breaking collaborative projects during a weekend of events in April as well as throughout the year.

Chairman of the campaign steering group and associate director of Browns department store, York, Angela Horner urged people who want to become involved to get in touch as soon as possible. ‘You don’t have to be a fashion store or a fashion designer. We’ve had wonderful collaborations with restaurants for example who have served fashion themed drinks or menus. Mulberry Hall dining (porcelain and kitchenwear specialists) had a live shop window in which fashion models were having afternoon tea. I believe the more, the merrier. More people becoming involved make the event more attractive and everyone will get much more out of the campaign.

‘We need everyone to help create the buzz. Dream up a fashion-related event or offer and we’ll help you get the word out. From full-on catwalk extravaganzas to cheeky little promotions, no event is too big or too small. We can’t do this alone – get your fashion thinking caps on and get involved.

Fashion City York is tapping into the city’s rich historic and cultural scene. The city’s first ever pop up Fashion Bar rocked the ancient rafters of the Guildhall, with DJs from Anonymous Records spinning the tunes while Ugot, the Biltmore and the York Cocoa House kept the glamorous crowds fed and watered. Historic exhibitions including fashion accessories also fill the bill as part of the campaign to make York a fashion destination. ‘It’s not just about fashion boutiques and fashion designers, the campaigner is bigger than that and involves the whole city,’ added Angela.

Fashion City York Weekend takes place April 10th, 11th and 12th filled with sparky networking evenings, inspiring live fashion events and much more.
