A sparkling start to Christmas

As proud possessor of the title ‘Town Centre of the Year’ you would expect the good folk of Blackburn to come up with something special at Christmas. And, if last year’s Festival of Light is any yardstick, you wouldn’t be disappointed.

After the big lights switch-on, due on November 25, the stage will then be set for the town’s annual lantern parade on December 16. It promises to be even bigger and better than ever.

The Festival of Light is now in its sixth year and we sent photographer Glynn Ward along last December so readers planning to attend this year’s parade would know to expect. The result is a mixture of drama, fun and excitement.

The high point is a community lantern parade and organisers have produced a programme designed to create a festival atmosphere with exotic street performers and stunning light installations. Once again, it culminates in what promises to be a memorable firework display.

If you are looking for a sparkling start to the festivities, Blackburn looks like a good bet.
