As part of its #LoveCastles season, English Heritage will be holding sandcastle building workshops at a number of its castles across the country 21-22 July, including Pendennis. Budding sandcastle builders can learn top tips from sand sculpture experts. It’s a great chance to have heaps of fun mixing up a sand and water recipe and creating the ultimate sandcastle. Buckets and spades provided!

Workshops run hourly each day from 11am (last one 4pm), and are available on a first come, first served basis for a £2 donation to the #LoveCastles appeal. The workshops are suitable for the whole family from age 5 upwards, with adult supervision needed for under 12’s - so grown-ups can join in the fun too! Under-fives will be able to get hands on with their own sand-table, open throughout both days for no additional charge.

English Heritage looks after 66 castles in the country, including 8 in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly; more than any other organisation in the UK. English Heritage’s #LoveCastles crowd-funding appeal aims to protect our nation’s amazing collection of castles for future generations to enjoy.

To celebrate the #LoveCastles season, English Heritage are asking the public to build a sandcastle this summer, wherever they are, be it a beach in Margate or Malaga. To be in with a chance of winning a stay in one of English Heritage’s historic holiday cottages amongst a host of other prizes you need to build a sandcastle, place one of the #LoveCastles flags on top, and share the pictures on Facebook, Instagram (using the #LoveCastles hashtag) or by uploading it onto the Castles webpage: www.english-heritage.org.uk/castles

The Sandcastle workshops mark the start of a historic summer of events at Pendennis. Highlights include a brand new Tudor Pageant in July, the return of the ever popular Grand Medieval Jousts throughout August, an action-packed two days of Pendennis at War in August, and family fun and activities throughout the school holidays courtesy of the Hands on History Crew.
