Andrew Thorpe, Bridgfords Estate Agents - Why I live in Knutsford
- Credit: Archant
Andrew Thorpe is the branch manager of Bridgfords Estate Agents in Knutsford. He lives in a 1963 three-bedroom detached house with his girlfriend Justine Woolley and a ginger cat called George.
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I was brought up in Hale Barns and went to Altrincham Boy’s Grammar School. I am now branch manager for Bridgfords in Knutsford and before that I was assistant manager in the Alderley Edge office. I also worked in Wilmslow as an assistant manager. I have worked for Bridgfords for eight years and I absolutely love it. It is such a varied role. I can be valuing a house worth £100,000 for one client and another worth several million pounds for another. There can’t be many areas in the UK that have such a range of property values
The house we live in is in a fantastic location just 15 minutes walk from the town and 15 minutes from Tatton Park, plus it has got everything you would want - including a wide range of shops and restaurants. There’s a really healthy economy here so it’s a great place to live.
What do you enjoy most about the area?
I love the fact that Tatton is only 15 minutes away. It’s a beautiful place to go walking. It’s also a good location for cycling. When I am not at work I am usually road biking and keep my bike indoors! I would really like to ride it to work but I need my car for doing valuations. Before I moved to Knutsford last May, I lived in Mobberley and I quite often go over there cycling with friends. I’ll ride over and we’ll stop off at the Gourmet Cafe in the centre of the village for lunch or breakfast.

We’ve got a ginger cat called George who we had to consider when we were buying the house - he loves it as there’s woodland at the back of the garden which he can wander into.
Any favourite haunts?
We really like Gusto in the centre of Knutsford and go there quite often. There are lots of fantastic places to eat and drink here and it’s also close enough for us to take a trip into Mobberley to the Bulls Head which is one of our favourite pubs. We’ve got into taking the train and heading into Hale which is only a 10 minute journey away. We can go there and have a few drinks and a meal and catch the late train back.
What’s the shopping like?
I particularly like the markets here. I come into town for the artisan market which is proving good for other businesses at it brings people into Knutsford on a Sunday. Other than that, I confess I only really do supermarket shopping even though the town has a reputation for really good shopping.
What are the people like?
Quite a lot of our neighbours have lived here a number of years. The lady who lived in the house before us had been there since it was built in 1963, so yes. It’s very neighbourly.
What do you do when not in Knutsford?
My family have a house in Abersoch so when we’re not here we are in Wales. We can get there in just over two hours.. We are also keen scuba divers so we’ll be doing that too.
And he great thing about living here is that you can hop on the train and be in Manchester in 35 minutes.
