Join Rob Penn, writer and woodsman, and presenter of the inspirational BBC4 series, Tales from the Wild Wood, at the Tamar Valley Centre, near Gunnislake, on Saturday 1 February.
Rob will be hosting an evening discussion which will look at his experience of bringing part of an abandoned woodland in the Black Mountains back to life and how engagement between local communities and landowners can help to conserve and enhance these valuable assets.
It is a great opportunity for members of the public to hear directly about Rob’s experiences, ask any burning questions and meet other like-minded local woodland enthusiasts.
The event has been organised jointly by the Tamar Community Trust and Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) team.
Corinna Woodall, Tamar Valley AONB Manager, explains why it’s so important for the Tamar Valley; “The UK, and in particular the South West of England, is characterised by small parcels of woodland. These represent a valuable natural resource, but are often undermanaged due to their size and loss of economic viability”.
Dave Readman from the Tamar Community Trust adds; “It will be really exciting to hear Rob’s views and suggestions on how we can move forward in the Valley with this idea”.

The following morning, there will also be an opportunity to visit a local woodland that is being brought back under management, with Rob. This will be a great chance to find out more about Community Supported Woodlands.
