A VIP gala night was held at the Williamson Art Gallery, Birkenhead, to launch the opening of a BAFTA exhibition, Behind the Mask, by celebrity photographer Dr Andy Gotts MBE. Organised by the Friends of the Williamson charity, the gala offered the first opportunity for 250 guests to view the photographic portraits of 100 BAFTA winners and hear anecdotes from Dr Gotts. Harmony group the Night and Days, the Speakeasy Bootleg Band and The Mersey Swing CIC provided lively entertainment for the occasion.

Organiser Alison Bailey Smith said: ‘We had around 60 people working behind the scenes to make this evening a success. Volunteers helped arrange sponsorship with Hope Street Hotel, Bananafish Management, Wirral School of Music, Walkers Carpets and Momentary Art Project. We had such an enjoyable time and are already thinking about the next one.’
