It is a year round job for Adrian Laurence and the band of dedicated volunteers who make Nantwich Show a success. It may take place on just one day– with the associated International Cheese Awards taking place over two – but it is a task that takes every other day of the year to pull together.

Adrian, show secretary said: ‘There only a few of us in the office each day who work really hard and then as we get closer we have different people leading each section. They do a lot of hard work on each area they are responsible for.

‘Without these people and all of the stewards who also get involved, we just wouldn’t be able to make the show possible. We are lucky to have so many people who are passionate about making it a success.’

It is hardly surprising. This lovely agricultural event gives people a slice of countryside life in south Cheshire. At the show, which this year takes place on July 29th, there is everything from cattle, sheep and poultry displays as well as equestrian events and many different areas to explore on the day.

One of the flagship events for this year is a thrilling stunt display by Jason Smyth, an former world champion motocross rider, who will wow visitors with his stunning motorcycle and bike displays where he propels 30 feet into the air. The display of vintage cars and vintage agricultural machinery will make a return for the second years. Owners will bring along their prized vehicles to the show for people to get a close look at. There will also be a Countryside Pursuits area, which this year will be bigger than ever.

Adrian said: ‘Jason appeared at the show last year and he was such a success that we knew it would be great to have him back again. We’re expecting a great display from him again.

‘The Countryside Pursuits is one of the most popular areas. It’s a brilliant part of the show with everything from gun dogs to learning more about the beautiful countryside we have here in Cheshire.’

Ticket sales have already been going well and it is hoped, like in previous years, thousands of people will turn out to the showground, to celebrate all that is great about agricultural life in this pretty part of the county.

A highlight for many visitors to the show is the International Cheese Awards, a world-renowned event and competition that runs on July 28th and 29th. The event, now the world’s largest cheese show, has attracted entries from across the globe with cheese makers from America, Australia, Lithuania and across Europe already scheduled to visit the show. They will all be vying for the top prize of Supreme Champion.

It is also a favourite of numerous celebrity chefs, including James Martin who regularly speaks about it on Saturday Kitchen. He will again appear at the show again this year as well as former Coronation Street star turned cheese maker, Sean Wilson, as well as celebrated chefs Will Holland and Jonathan Harrison.

Adrian said: ‘James Martin has become a real fan of the show which is fantastic and we love to have him here, as well as the other chefs who will make it a great show.

‘The International Cheese Awards has really grown and we are now the world’s largest. It is incredible that we have people coming from all corners of the globe. The awards have grown into a prestige event and people want to be winners.

‘We are very proud that the Nantwich Show and the cheese awards are such a success. They help to put Nantwich on the map globally. That is very exciting.’
