Parents, teachers and the local community joined together to celebrate the 170th anniversary of Bickerstaffe Church of England Primary School near Ormskirk.

The summer celebration was held at The Great Hall at Lancashire Manor in Pimbo and it proved to be a glamorous evening attended by over 100 guests enjoying a drinks reception, a dinner followed by live entertainment from Jamie Somers, a Michael Buble tribute act.

This is a special year for the school, which was built on its present site in 1844. The original stone inscription recording its name and date has been preserved in front of the school. It was built from local stone from the Delph, and carried up Hall Lane by horse and cart.

‘The school is at the heart of the local community and enjoys a close relationship with Bickerstaffe Holy Trinity Church and the evening was a wonderful opportunity to bring everyone together to celebrate’ said Catherine Ormesher, the PTA chairwoman.
