Bunbury residents gathered for a special celebration of the Queen’s 90th birthday

Bunbury residents toasted Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday in style at a celebratory tea party. Organised by the parish council and Leila Potter, a special invitation was sent out to parishioners over 90 years of age to attend the free event at the village hall.

Festooned prettily with bunting, fairy lights, Union Jack flags and balloons, the hall hosted 94 guests who enjoyed lunch before joining Vicar Tim Hayward in a toast to Her Majesty’s health. A cake with silver and gold candles was then cut. Pupils from Aldersey School made hundreds of birthday cards with good wishes for the Queen and three prizes were awarded to the best.

Leila Potter said: ‘It was truly a memorable day. The food was superb. It was organised by Sandra Dykes, it was Ritz standard! The youngest person there was 11 months and the oldest was Bunbury resident, Joan Wilson, 92 .’
