Powderham Castle opens its doors for the 2014 season with ‘Chocolate & Candy’ fortnight from Sunday 6th April to Monday 21st April
Powderham Castle, the 600 year old home of the Earl and Countess of Devon near Exeter, opens its doors tomorrow for the start of the new 2014 season.
After months of preparation throughout the winter, the Castle & grounds will be open again to visitors from 1st April until 30th October 2014 from Sunday to Friday from 11:00 am to 4.30 pm.
‘Behind the scenes we’ve all been busy over the winter months getting ready for a fun-packed year,’ says Communication Manager Catherine Crowe. ‘As well as a brand new collection of wedding packages, we have a whole range of special events and activities planned right through from the 1st April until 30th October.’
To kick-start the new season, the Powderham team are announcing the return of their ever-popular Chocolate and Candy fortnight by Jonty Depp and the Pocketwatch Theatre Company.
‘We have a whole host of fun activities for all the family at Powderham Castle. From Sunday 6th April to Monday 21st April, excluding Saturday 12th April’ adds Catherine. ‘Come and meet our famous chocolatier and his team and learn about the science of confectionary in the ‘imagination room’. Children will also get the chance to design a wrapper and invent their own type of sweets on the day.’
‘We will be running two sessions each day in the afternoon,’ adds Catherine. ‘Visitors will meet in the Castle courtyard then have an hour session to look round the imagination room, taste, smell and identify sweet related things, understand the science of confectionary and name a candy box, bag or wrapper. Children and adults alike love chocolate and our special Chocolatier loves the opportunity to teach people about it!’
