Thousands of pounds were raised at a glamorous black tie event on the Wirral

Over £120,000 has been raised for the Clatterbridge Cancer Charity at a glittering occasion held at The Hillbark Hotel, Frankby, Wirral. Guests at the Black and White Ball helped to raise £122,347 which will fund a stem cell and bone marrow transplant suite in the new specialist hospital being constructed in Liverpool.

Hosted by radio presenter Pete Price, guests included BBC broadcasters Victoria Derbyshire and Louise Minchin, as well as Liverpool Football Club’s chief executive Peter Moore, who took bids for a ‘money can’t buy’ opportunity to be his guest at a match at Anfield. Other prizes on offer included a £4,000 jewellery set donated by Boodles and the chance to have a dress designed and fitted by Philip Armstrong. Guests enjoyed a Perrier-Jouet Champagne reception before a sumptuous three course meal and entertainment from The Three Waiters and a disco.

There was also a speech from a Clatterbridge patient, Hannah Martin, who was the focus of a film shown after dinner. Hannah, 33, has Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and has had two stem cell transplants. She said: ‘This suite is so important because it saves lives. It isn’t a nice thing to go through but to have the best facilities will be a big help to patients like me.’
