A FREE public event is taking place at Torbay Hospital this evening (19th) to give people the opportunity to hear from Torbay Hospital’s clinical nurse Dr Dee Burrows RN about creative approaches to managing pain.

The discussion starts at 6pm in the Horizon Centre Café. It is the latest event to be held at the award-winning Torbay Health Science Café.

Dr Borrows, a specialist in chronic pain, will explain what pain is and will focus on some approaches to help people manage pain at home, including techniques such as pacing activities and managing sleep, as well as simple medication. An opportunity for open discussion will follow the talk.

The Science Café is an international model which aims to help people understand science and technology issues. Usually held in cafés, theatres and bars, it is unusual for a hospital to host a Science Café, however, Torbay Hospital has been hosting these events for almost a year now

There is no need to book a place and teas, coffees and light refreshments will be available to buy from 5:30pm. Free parking for the event will be available in staff car-park B at the Lowes Bridge entrance to Torbay Hospital. The Horizon Centre Café is signposted from there.
