The incredible engineering project to re-build the broken railway line at Dawlish earlier this year is the centerpiece of a new TV documentary series launching soon.
Devon-based production company, Twofour, has produced a brand new series of The Railway: First Great Western for Channel 5, following the working lives of the staff on one of Britain’s largest train operating companies.
The Railway: First Great Western goes behind the scenes to capture the inside story of the company that provides public transport from the capital down to the south west of England and Wales using the Great Western railway network, which began life over 170 years ago under the guidance of Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
The second series charts the extraordinary weather of early 2014, which saw the railway at Dawlish fall away and the incredible efforts to rebuild the line, a project that saw an army of 300 engineers working round the clock to re-connect Devon and Cornwall to London and the rest of the country for the thousands of holiday makers and commuters.
As well as the day to day life of the company’s workforce, the four part series also delves into the iconic Pullman Silver Service dining car, the only of its kind in the country.
The Railway: First Great Western starts on Thursday, 4 December at 8pm on Channel 5.
