New Proton Beam department which is due to open in 2018

A diamond themed charity lunch at The Principal Hotel in Manchester raised £30,000 for The Christie Hospital’s new Proton Beam department which is due to open in 2018. The glamorous event was organised by Myra Garlick, who has been raising funds for the Manchester hospital since 2001 when her father passed away after suffering from colon cancer.

Singer Georgia Holland kicked off the fun. She entertained during a drinks reception as guests browsed retail stalls.

Attendees then sat down to lunch which included a fashion show by designer Zeynep Kartal, followed by an auction and the chance to win a £6,000 diamond supplied by Kate McLauchlan Gemstone Traders Ltd.

Myra, from Knutsford, said: ‘What a fabulous day! I am already being asked what date it’s being held on next year. People’s support in raising funds for The Christie has been magnificent and is truly appreciated.’
