Two vital charities were boosted by a celebration night at The Fence Gate near Burnley when local midwives got together for a night of dining and dancing.

Organised by the East Lancashire Royal College of Midwives, the night was a rousing success. Guests took part in a raffle and a silent auction to raise money for two charities – Knitting Smiles, which provides baby boxes of hand-made items for disadvantaged families, and CMV Action, which raises awareness of a common virus which can affect the health of unborn babies.

Guest heard speakers discuss the International Day of the Midwife along with personal stories from the charities they supported. The event showcased the continuing importance of midwifery and why it should be supported.
