The Evelyn Waugh Lecture and Dinner at Lancing College was established to thank the members of the Lancing Foundation for their loyalty and generosity, and to honour one of the school’s most illustrious pupils.

The inaugural lecture, in 2008, was given by Sir David Hare OL and, since then, speakers have included Evelyn Waugh’s grandson, Mr Alexander Waugh, and Mr Christopher Hampton CBE OL.

This year, the College was delighted to welcome a very special double-act – Mr Anthony Andrews, who played Sebastian Flyte in the 1981 television adaptation of Waugh’s novel Brideshead Revisited, and Mr Derek Granger, who produced the series and wrote much of the screenplay. The latter delighted the audience with a fascinating anecdote about his interview with Evelyn Waugh in Brighton more than 60 years ago.
