forest LIVE presents the launch of singer, musician and composer Louise Jordan’s third album ‘Veritas’ at Fordingbridge Town Hall on Saturday 27th September.
‘Veritas’ is Louise Jordan’s third album and it confirms the distinctive singer, musician and songwriter she has become. ‘Veritas’ develops stylistically from her previous three recordings which have been described as ‘Absolutely, totally and completely, brilliant”’ by Mike Harding, BBC Radio 2 ‘a master class in song writing’ R2 ????and ‘absolutely glorious” FATEA Magazine. Reviewing a live performance, The Telegraph described Louise’s music as having ‘A stirring, lilting grace… She also has an engaging stage presence… featured in Vogue this year as a rising star’ The Telegraph.
Louise has had support from Help Musicians UK who awarded her an Emerging Excellence Grant to produce a third album and she has been part of the English Folk Dance and Song Society’s Aspire Programme for the development of emerging artists working with producer Stu Hanna (Show of Hands, Seth Lakeman, Megson) as a mentor.
Louise was born in Winchester, grew up in Hampshire and moved to Wiltshire aged 10. She moved away from home at 18 to Birmingham University where she studied law and worked as a youth worker and in youth justice before training and working as a teacher in challenging schools in east London as part of the Teach First graduate scheme. Whilst working as a project manager for Shelter and studying for a Masters (MA) in Human Rights Louise discovered folk clubs. ”I believe these experiences” she says ‘have informed the direction of my songwriting and performing. I write and choose songs which explore the human condition and which people can relate to.’
Louise works full time as a musician and continues her passion for working with young people through music workshops. One project she is thrilled to be involved in is Zone Club at Salisbury Arts Centre with the learning disabled community. ‘It is a constant reminder’ she concludes ‘of just how powerful music is in helping us communicate and express ourselves.’
Veritas is Latin for truth and the album deals with aspects of honesty and integrity. Louise will perform tracks from her album Veritas (which will be launched on Monday 29th September) including an original song about New Forest smuggler Lovey Warne, Louise’s empowering self-penned single ‘In the End’, traditional songs including ‘Bushes and Briars’ and a unique arrangement of Handel’s aria ‘Where’er You Walk’.
