Oxfordshire law firm Withy King and accountants Wellers are holding a seminar to help technology businesses identify tax savings, safeguard employee knowledge and protect their intangible assets.
The event at Harwell, Oxford on Thursday October 30, is aimed at owner-managers, company directors, finance directors and HR directors interested in hearing the latest updates on tax relief for spending on research and development (R&D) and patented products, intellectual property and employment law.
Mark Emery, an employment partner at Withy King and part-time employment tribunal judge, who will be speaking at the event, said: “In the technology sector, knowledge is king. Employees often hold the key to that knowledge so I will be exploring the best ways a business can protect itself in the event that staff leave or join a competitor.”
Another speaker, Stuart Crook, a partner at Wellers, said: “The legislation around the patent box and R&D tax reliefs are complex and regularly updated so it is crucial that businesses review their products and expenditure regularly so they don’t miss out on any of the generous tax savings available. My talk will help clarify the eligibility criteria, highlight areas of spending which businesses need to assess and set out the steps involved in making a successful claim.”
Richard Baxter, a corporate partner at Withy King, is the third speaker and he will be sharing his views on how businesses can best protect and exploit their intangible assets, which include patents, trademarks, copyrights, methodologies and brand.
This legal and tax seminar is being held at Catapult, The Electron Building, Fermi Avenue, Harwell on Thursday, 30 October, from 12.15pm to 2.15pm. It includes presentations from the three speakers, networking and lunch.
