Herb Fed

What is your business and how long have you been trading for?

We produce award-winning free range Chickens, Bronze Turkeys and Christmas Roosters. Our flocks all happily live out in the field as birds should, but are also fed a unique fresh herb diet, sustainably sourced as a by-product of a local Herb Farm, Herbs Unlimited. Herb Fed started in 2010 when Edward returned to his Yorkshire roots, leaving life as a chartered surveyor in London behind him.

Why did you choose the Great Yorkshire Show and what are you most looking forward to?

This is our third year at the show exhibiting at the 'Meet The Farmer' event in Food Hall 1. We're proud to have been invited and together, with other Yorkshire farmers, growers and researchers from across the county, we will be showcasing the very best of Yorkshire farming.

We love the event as it is a great, and rare, opportunity for the public to be able to make the connection between the food they buy and the farmers, families and businesses that work hard to produce it.

Why should our readers visit your stand?

As the only producers in the country feeding our poultry on this diet you will be able to sample some of our delicious chicken and chat to us about what we do. Meet The Farmer event is a fantastic opportunity for the public to meet and talk to the farmers about how food is locally produced in Yorkshire.

McNair

What is your business and how long have you been trading for?

McNair makes performance shirts and jackets for men and women using only natural materials. Our aim was to make the world's best Mountain Shirt. We were formally established in 2013, but there were months of fabric development and sampling beforehand whilst we created the perfect Mountain Shirt. We tested prototypes from Kamchatka to Reykjavik and 6 months later our first shirt was available for sale.

McNair's aim is to create beautiful performance garments which are stylish, sustainable and don't harm the environment. Our wool shirts start with the finest virgin merino lamsbwool. It is then dyed, spun, woven, finished and raised all within 10 miles of our atelier in Slaithwaite. Our cotton moleskin and corduroy fabrics are reputedly the best in the world from an old local supplier.

These fabrics are laser treated for water-repellency without the need of fluorocarbons. Each garment is serial-numbered and signed by the seamstress.

Why should our readers visit your stand?

You'll have the chance to see our entire collection. Aside from our showroom in Huddersfield, which is open by appointment, our only other stockist is Fortnum & Mason. There's no difference in price between our off-the-peg and made-to-measure service, so it's a great opportunity to get measured up.

Great British Life: The Orthotic WorksThe Orthotic Works (Image: Archant)

The Orthotic Works

Tell us a bit about your product/services

Your feet support the weight of everything above them, so a small problem in your feet can change the way you walk, leading to joint stress higher up in your body.

Customised orthotics look like insoles, but are biomechanical medical appliances that are custom made to correct your specific foot imbalance.

They reduce stress and strain on your body by bringing your feet back into proper alignment.

Why should our readers visit your stand?

See us on our event stand for a free analysis to assess your needs. If you have pains in the feet such as tired aching feed, heel pains, bunions, metatarsalgia (pain in the balls of feet), callouses and hammer toes this can be a result of faulty alignment of joints in the foot and altered biomechanics.

If the pain is worse or brought on by standing, walking or running then orthotics will help realign joints and reduce symptoms.
