The awards are an annual event organised by Caring Times to celebrate the very best people in the care sector, highlighting excellence and rewarding those who work tirelessly to provide consistently outstanding care.

Michelle Gorringe, Managing Director of Green Tree Court, said: “Winning the coveted Care Home of the Year at the National Care Awards was quite simply the icing on the cake.

“When myself and business partner, Stephen, designed the Home and the care concept, our vision was to create a Home that perfectly combined high standard luxury living standards and clinical care. Having achieved our outstanding CQC report, Stirling Gold for Dementia Care and now Care Home of the Year we are simply thrilled.

“I would like to personally thank the Home Director Helen, David Barenskie - Head of Dementia, Sarah Cundall - Head of Care and every single staff member for their contribution to winning this award.

“I am privileged to work with such an inspiring, caring and compassionate team who ensure that our residents enjoy excellent food, live in a safe and caring environment and quite simply deliver a care service that is exceptional.”

The Home, rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission, is no stranger to landing first place. The innovative Devon-based nursing home was formally awarded the ‘Gold Standard’ this year, an internationally recognised benchmark devised by the Dementia Services Development Centre (DSDC), for its dementia-friendly ‘Willow’ floor, which has been tailored to meet the needs of residents with dementia.

In addition to being fully equipped to deliver high quality dementia care, Green Tree Court’s Head Chef, Tim Ware, who you may recognise from the BBC’s Masterchef, is the former title-holder of ‘Chef of the Year,’ which he won at the 2016 Care Awards.

Helen Rushton, Home Manager of Green Tree Court, attributes its ongoing success to its hardworking team of expert-trained healthcare professionals. “Winning the Care Home of the Year title was the perfect end to November, the month within which we also celebrated our fourth birthday.

“Green Tree Court is something I’m extremely proud to be a part of and this recent win is a true reflection of everything the team have worked so hard for and how incredible they are with our wonderful residents, day-in, day-out.”

The judges were in agreement: “All the key indicators that signify an outstanding home were exceeded. Staffing levels, training opportunities, technological development, community engagement, being well led and having a holistic approach underpins their genuine and authentic approach to outstanding care.”

Winners of the National Care Awards were presented with their trophies by host Jon Culshaw at the high-profile Gala Night held on Friday, 30th November at the Hilton London Metropole attended by over 700 guests.
