Celebrate the spring half term from February 15 - 23 in Shakespeare’s England with a host of exciting activities and events.
Taking in a show at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, heading to Warwick or Kenilworth Castle for the day or experiencing some of the fun activities at one of the many museums are just a few of the things you could get up to this February in Warwickshire.
The Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon is offering activities for all the family inspired by the current production Wendy & Peter Pan. Workshops include pirate dancing and sword fighting, free craft sessions where you can make your own fairy wings and movement sessions with actors. Also showing is Misunderstood Monsters, a fast moving spoken-word show for ages 4 – 9 years. You can also enjoy lunch with the kids in the Rooftop Restaurant at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre; a children’s menu runs all day for the under-12s with the usual favourites for little ones to enjoy. All children will receive an RSC goodie bag with a colouring sheet, crayons and other goodies to keep them entertained.
Join in the celebration of 1,100 years of Warwick Castle, where you’ll be surrounded by the history and mythology of the building. February Half Term marks the start of the year of celebration as the Castle showcases a brand new Trebuchet show, plus skilled knights take centre stage for some dynamic fighting scenes. Also new for half term, The Princess Tower introduces a story that promises to enthrall and amuse the Castle’s youngest visitors, who can now enjoy dressing up for the entire show. Warwick Royal Weekend Party, based on a notorious visit in 1898 by the Prince of Wales, and Kingmaker: Eve of Battle, which tells the story of how the 16th Earl of Warwick prepared his household for battle, will offer greater interactivity for young visitors including more sounds and smells.
Families can enjoy a week of half-term activity at the Shakespeare Family Homes. New Place and Nash’s House is hosting A Week of Love and Frenemies – a quiz based on the enemies and friends in some of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, and Hall’s Croft will also be offering families the chance to test their knowledge of Stratford’s most famous son with a quiz – The Play’s The Thing.
The Heritage Motor Centre is inviting everyone to a week of ‘Auto Science Live’. The event features a range of free activities bringing automotive engineering and the science behind it to life. Included are family Story-telling tours as well as drop-in sessions and workshops to inspire children of all ages. Every day children can get ‘hands-on’ and test their powers of observation with the Auto Science Trail.
For the first time in its 10 year history, Compton Verney is opening its doors early to welcome families over the half term. In the Studio space there will be a special drop-in soap carving activity where participants can make their own mini sculpture inspired by the Moore Rodin exhibition. Out in the grounds, visitors can make themselves into a work of art by striking a pose on the 12th plinth, which has been placed amongst the sculptures by Henry Moore and Auguste Rodin. Children can also enjoy the adventure playground, having fun playing hide and seek and exploring the park.
