Spooky events including ghost tours and fright nights have been unveiled across Exeter and the Heart of Devon for Halloween.
Exeter is regarded as one of the most haunted cities in the country, based on reported ghost sightings, with recorded tales of strange apparitions around the city, including a three headed ghost and tall glowing figures around Exeter Cathedral.
Richard Dyke, an Exeter Red Coat Guide, will be one of the many guides leading groups on the popular Halloween special Spooks and Broomsticks tour that sets off from Cathedral Green, on Thursday 29 October, starting at 6.15pm.
Richard reports that Exeter is the 4th most haunted city in England just behind York, Chester and Derby, based on number of reported ghost sightings per head of population. Some of Exeter’s most haunted buildings are on the high street. Marks and Spencer for example is renowned for paranormal activity, due to the fact it’s built on a medieval church yard.
This Halloween, there will be a number of local events across the Heart of Devon. The Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) in Exeter will be coming alive for the night with a ‘Things that go bump in the night’ event.
Kate Osborne, RAMM Learning Officer, said: “With its rich and varied history there are so many voices from the past in Exeter and what better place to hear them than in city’s Gothic museum at night? What better time than Halloween?”
There will also be spooky ghost tours in the Underground Passages and Crealy Park is attracting spook-seekers with a new attraction’ Trick or Treat with the Treehouse Trolls, and Witch’s cavern.
Grace Ryder, Crealy Marketing Manager, said: “We are very excited about launching a brand new spooky attraction, Trick or Treat with the Treehouse Trolls this October half term. Grab your hats, broomsticks, whiskers and pussycat tails and get ready for some spellbinding adventures!”
Other events happening include Seaton Tramways “Halloween week of Tram Terror”, Fright Nights at Escot Park and Hannahs Scary Doors Trail in Newton Abbot.
