The Makers Fayre is the brainchild of two crafty friends who were fed up of attending boring craft markets and often having to compete with stall holders who buy in their produce.

Both Hailey and Megan-Beth run their own handmade businesses and know how much hard work goes in to each item that is created and how important it is to have a retail outlet where customers can come to see and handle their creations and talk to the makers.

Hailey and Megan-Beth met through the ever growing crafting community online, having both been selling their handmade designs through popular e-commerce sites. They identified a need to enable their customers to see their products in order to appreciate the hard work that goes into making them, and the level of quality offered.

The first Fayre was held at the Maze Courtyard, Stansted House on Mothers Day and the sun shone on the range of stalls from coffee to felt, mosaics to gelato and much more in between.

“The Maker’s Fayre is a bustling, atmospheric market that showcases a collective of local Makers, selling quality, unique, truly hand-crafted wares. We aim to provide a wonderful opportunity for shoppers to view latest collections & creative ideas, meet the Maker and become inspired. There is a wealth of talent in our local area, either with people creating their items as a hobby or a business, and we are looking forward to enabling those people to have an affordable, customer-facing selling platform.” Hailey

“Our first fayre was such fun it had such a friendly bubbly environment, it was everything we could have hoped to create, our stall holders had a lovely day in the sunshine chatting to customers it was so nice to see the hard work pay off.” Megan-Beth

The duo are planning on opening a permanent The Maker’s Fayre in Petersfield in the foreseeable future, where a selection of traders will be selling handmade pieces, and there will be an opportunity to attend craft workshops run by specialists in their field. There will be a wide range of craft materials, books and magazines available to purchase.

The Maker’s Fayre will be featured on a monthly basis in The Maze Courtyard and Lower Walled Garden at Stansted House, and at other local venues to be announced shortly.

The Maker’s Fayre already has a following on Facebook and Twitter, as the organisers have harnessed the social media that helped to launch their own businesses to spread the word about their new venture.
